Keys to Quality: Parenting Education

This module is specifically designed for Even Start program leaders and program staff that are responsible for the implementation of the required component of parenting education in Even Start Family Literacy programs. Keys to Quality: Parenting Education provides participants with the research background, knowledge, and skills necessary to implement high quality parenting education. The focus of this module is to assist parents to become the primary teacher for their children and full partners in the education of their children.

This 2-day workshop will allow each participant to accomplish the following goals:

  • Understand the statutory requirements for providing parenting education in Even Start
  • Understand how Even Start Family Literacy strengthens the role of parents to support their children's education and to be partners in their education
  • Understand the current research supporting parenting education
  • Understand the process of intentional instruction
  • Understand the key behaviors parents need to support their children's learning and practice strategies to foster parents' development of these behaviors
  • Deliver a comprehensive, literacy-focused parenting education program
